How do I override a course grade in Gradebook?

Instructors can manually override the final course grade calculated by Gradebook.

Video Guide

Step-by-Step Instructions

Go to Gradebook.

Select the Gradebook tool from the Tool Menu of your site.

Within the student's Course Grade cell, select the down arrow and choose Course Grade Override.

In this example, we are selecting Course Grade Override for Student, One (mai4n-stu1).

Enter override score and save.

  1. From the Override drop down menu, select the new course grade to replace the auto-calculated grade.
  2. Click Save Course Grade Override(s).

NOTE: When manually entering a course grade, you will only be able to select the appropriate grade type for the student.  For example, if the student is registered for the class as GRD, only letter grades with + (plus sign) or - (minus sign) will be available.  If the student is enrolled as CNC (Credit/No Credit), you will only have CR or NC to enter.  See Default Grading Basis Thresholds for more information.

Confirmation of override.

A message indicating that the course grade has been changed will appear at the top of the Grades page in Gradebook.

The course grade will be bold to indicate a manual override.
