How do I add multiple parts to an assessment?

This explains how to create additional parts to assessment. Parts are often used to set up random question sets that pull questions from question pools.

Go to Tests & Quizzes.

Select the Tests & Quizzes tool from the Tool Menu of your course.

Select an assessment.

Questions may be added to any assessment. Select an existing assessment or create a new one.

Note: You may also add a question directly to a question pool.

Add attachment. (Optional)

Click Add Attachments to browse for and select a file attachment if desired.

Is it timed? (Optional)

This setting allows you to specify a time limit for answering a specific part of the assessment. If timed, students have until the end of the time limit, or until the Final Submission Deadline, whichever comes first, to submit their answers to the questions within this part. Their answers will be automatically saved and submitted at the expiration of the timer.

Setting a time limit for an individual part can be useful if you would like to time students' responses per section, rather than setting a time limit for the entire assessment which may contain several different parts.

Select Part Type.

Choose one of the available options for the part Type:

  • Questions authored one-by-one - include only specific questions as authored in the assessment
  • Random draw from question pool - randomly select specific number of questions from all available questions within a question pool
  • Fixed and Random draw from question pool - include some specific/fixed questions as well as some random draw questions
  • Random draw from multiple question pools - randomly select specific number of questions from all available questions within more than one question pool
